At a bit of a loss

I've turned over "Eulogy for Muffin" (my sub for "The Blackness Within" anthology) to my first round readers.

The first response was a simple "Horrifying and beautiful." An expected response from my cheerleader reader. Still, I asked her to look it over again for anything that needed work. Her second comment? "I reread the Muffin story. No grammar errors I can see, and I have the urge to make "Moccus doesn't love you, but your death will please him" t-shirts."

The second response came from Mom who usually has to fix my grammar or dropped words. For the first time ever, she returned the story with no edits and with the comment, "I did a search on Moccus after reading your story. Was surprised to learn such a myth does exist. Definitely disturbing, definitely horror. I don't think I even want to know where the inspiration for this one came from. VERY well written. I have ZERO changes. I guess practice does make perfect, because your writing is definitely improving. This would fit in most any horror anthology. Good work."

Ok. That's a shock. A cool one but still. I've never had a story come back from Mom without edits. I'm not sure what to do with myself now. If my East German Judge Reader comes back with no edit suggestions at all, I'm gonna be really surprised.

Sounds like you have a winner there! Mine is still less than half-way done. I hope to have it ready in the next couple of weeks.
